As Leaders - Providing Stability

As Leaders ~
Providing Stability
As leaders, it’s important we keep in mind the provision we give others when we display safety and stability in our character. They rely on us the way we rely on a brick pathway; we expect it to provide a solid foundation at all times. The same is true for those we lead; they look to us for consistent reliability and strength.
Leading is not often an easy task but when you find yourself in that role, being at one’s best takes effort, and planning. So today, consider what you may need to lead better than you already do, and to be fully present while leading.
If our personal needs aren’t met, we can crack and not provide the safety and stability our teams need. Rather than pushing them down or away, take a moment to analyze any unmet needs you have, then purposefully carve out time on your calendar to meet them — because doing so makes us better leaders. Better leaders make better teams. Better teams make a better product / money / workplace environment.
What feeds you so you can be your best?
- Do you need to off-load some responsibility? To whom would you give it?
- Are you in the right industry? If not, which one do you desire to be in?
- Are you bored? If so, in what way, and what steps can you take to mitigate it?
- Are you medicating a pain you haven’t addressed? What do you need to do to address that pain?
- Do you need a sabbatical? Do you need to save for it, or schedule it? What will it look like?
- Can you assign more time to be with loved ones? Can you schedule it now?
- Do you need to take care of personal tasks such as paying bills, getting the car washed, or stopping to visit a relative or friend?
- Do you need to go play? What does play look like to you? Can you schedule it?
- Do you need counsel? If so, from whom?
- Are you eating well / healthy / clean?
Also, how do you rest? Are you rejuvenated by having friends over for a quiet evening and good meal? Or by going to the game Friday night and screaming your head off? Do you rest by sitting at home in a comfy chair reading a book, or talking to your best friend, or spending quality time with loved ones? Do you find refreshment in an exercise program, working until you have nothing left to give?
If you’d like to talk through this process with a trustworthy person, I invited you to make an appointment on the calendar page and let’s chat. The first session is 30-minutes and is pro-bono.
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer day, listening to the murmurs of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” – John Lubbock
